Storm Drain and Sewer Maintenance
Posted on Sep 1st, 2009
Rescue Rooter will be on-site for about 2 weeks starting September 21, doing preventative cleaning of our drains and sewer lines.
They will be working from 9 am through 5 pm daily (M-F), pressure-washing:
- 30 storm drains to clear out leaves, dirt, and debris,
- the sanitary sewer system from the 9 manholes to the city hook-up to clear grease and sludge buildup, and
- 96 individual sewer lines from the cleanouts to our main line to clear grease and sludge buildup. (The cleanouts are in the parking lot and street, near the garage entrances.)
Homeowners are reminded not to put grease or oils down their drains, and to be mindful of other solids unnecessarily put down their kitchen sinks. Because the sewer lines for the units are so intimately inter-connected, something one owner puts down a drain can cause a backup in another owner's sink, toilet, or tub.
Preventative cleaning like Rescue Rooter is doing only takes care of the sewer lines from the clean-outs to the city's lines -- it does not clear the lines from the drains inside the units to the clean-outs. Homeowners are responsible for keeping that portion of their own drains clear.
Homeowners are also advised to consult with their homeowner's insurance agents regarding coverage for backups.
